Guest speaker Mike C. Williams from CUPS Mission, focused on the difference between simply avoiding sin and actively living like Christ. Using Luke 4 and Matthew 25, the message challenged believers to move beyond a faith built on “don’ts” and embrace the mission Jesus actually proclaimed: loving people, serving the hurting, and showing compassion in practical ways.

Jesus Revealed a Mission Centered on People, Not Religion

In Luke 4, Jesus publicly declared why He came: to bring good news to the poor, heal the brokenhearted, free captives, restore sight to the blind, and bring hope to the oppressed. His ministry was not built around creating stricter religious systems, but around restoring hurting people and revealing the heart of God.

Jesus Challenged Religious Thinking of His Day

Many people during Jesus’ time believed that if they were righteous enough, God would reward them and destroy their enemies. Jesus confronted that mindset by teaching mercy, forgiveness, humility, and compassion instead of pride, judgment, and self righteousness.

The Commands of Jesus Focus on Love and Action

Luke 6 was highlighted as one of the clearest pictures of how Christians are called to live. Jesus instructed believers to love their enemies, bless those who curse them, pray for those who mistreat them, and treat others the way they themselves want to be treated. These commands require humility and intentional love.

Christians Are Called to be Known for What They do, Not Only What They Avoid

In Matthew 25, Jesus described caring for the hungry, thirsty, sick, imprisoned, and poor. Mike pointed out that Jesus measured compassion and service rather than a list of avoided behaviors. Christianity should produce visible acts of mercy and kindness toward others.

God Values Availability More Than Ability

The closing challenge encouraged believers to step into service even if they do not feel qualified. The message emphasized that God often works through willing hearts more than polished talent, and every believer has opportunities to serve both inside and outside the church.
