In this message Pastor Kevin Long walks through the visit of the wise men, the flight to Egypt, and the return to Nazareth to show how God cared for Mary, Joseph, and Jesus and how He still cares for us in our own spiritual battles today. Scripture reminds us that the first Christmas unfolded in the middle of deep darkness. In Matthew 2:11-23, we see a spiritual battle raging around the infant Jesus. Herod lashes out in evil, innocent families grieve, and yet through it all God quietly provides, protects, and fulfills His promises.
Trust God to provide
Mary and Joseph did not see every step in advance. They simply obeyed the light they had been given. God had already placed what they needed in their hands through the wise men’s gifts. In the same way, God knows what is ahead of us. He may use a conversation, a relationship, a job, or an unexpected gift to prepare us for a season we do not see coming.
Rest in God’s protection
We cannot avoid every hardship, and the spiritual battle is real, but the Lord is not passive. He leads, warns, redirects, and shields. He uses His Word, His Spirit, and even other believers as part of His protection in our lives.
Stand on God’s promises
The Christmas story is not just sentimental. It is proof that God keeps His word in history and will keep His word in eternity. When fear rises or evil feels overwhelming, we cling to what God has said, not what we feel.
Respond to the Gospel with faith
The same Jesus whom God protected as a child is the Savior who grew to live a perfect life and die on the cross for our sins. Pastor Kevin ends by walking through the gospel. All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Christ died and rose again so that all who repent and believe in Him will be saved. Christmas is a reminder that God did not stay distant. The Word became flesh and came near so we could be made right with Him.
In a world full of spiritual battles, Jesus is the light. The right response is to trust Him, follow Him, and keep sharing that good news with others.
