Pastor Kevin Long walked through John chapter 6 to show that Jesus is not just a miracle worker who provides physical bread; He is God the Son, the eternal Word made flesh who alone gives eternal life. After feeding the 5,000 and walking on water, Jesus redirects the crowd from their hunger for another meal to their deeper need for spiritual life. He declares Himself the Bread of Life, the Bread from heaven, and the Living Bread. We should believe in Jesus, feed on His Word, examine our hearts, and remember through the Lord’s Supper what His body and blood accomplished for us.

1. Who Jesus Is: The Word Made Flesh (John 1:1-5)

    • Jesus is eternal God, the Creator and Life-giver who took on flesh to reveal the Father in grace and truth.

2. Signs that Point to the Savior, Not Just a Meal (v. 1-21)

    • Jesus feeds the 5,000 and walks on water. The signs are real miracles, but their purpose is to point beyond full stomachs to faith in the Son of God.

3. “I Am the Bread of Life” — From Physical to Spiritual (v. 35)

    • The crowd wanted more loaves; Jesus offers Himself. Whoever believes in Him will not die but live forever.

4. Hard Saying, Clear Meaning (v. 52-58)

    • To “feed on” Christ is to trust, abide, and continually receive His life. The Lord’s Supper later symbolizes this reality; it is a memorial of His body given and His blood shed.

5. Salvation Is God’s Work, Received by Faith (v. 44; 63-65)

    • We come because the Father draws, the Spirit gives life, and we believe the Son.
