Based on 1 John 2:1-6, Pastor Kevin reframes the church not as a courtroom for casting judgment, but as a hospital for the spiritually sick to find rest, feeding, and healing. Addressing our universal struggle with sin, the sermon highlights three life-changing truths from the Apostle John: Jesus is Your Advocate who defends you against Satan’s accusations, Jesus is the Righteous one who perfectly relates to our humanity, and Jesus is the Propitiation – the ultimate payment for the sins of the entire world. Jesus invites us to stop hiding our mess, come as we are, and accept His free gift of grace through repentance and belief.
Jesus is Your Advocate
John writes his letter so that we may not sin, but he realistically adds, “But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father.” (1 John 2:1)

-
- Satan acts as the accuser, constantly lobbing charges at you, pointing out your flaws, and throwing your sins in God’s face.
- Jesus is there saying, “Yeah, but this one is mine.” Right? Jesus is your advocate. You belong to him. And no matter what Satan accuses you of, Jesus says, “But this one belongs to me.” Satan, there’s nothing you can do here.

Jesus is the Righteous
Jesus isn’t just any defender; He is Jesus Christ the righteous. He is uniquely qualified to bridge the gap between a holy God and sinful humanity because He is both divine and human.
-
-
-
- He Relates to Your Pain: Jesus walked this earth in human flesh. If you’ve been tired, hungry, or lonely, Jesus has been there.
- He Relates to Brokenness: Raised by a stepfather (Joseph) in a world full of societal pressures, Jesus understands the complexities of a messy family dynamic. Because He lived a perfect, righteous life, He can legally trade His perfection for our brokenness.

Jesus is the Propitiation
“Propitiation” is a big theological word, but Pastor Kevin breaks it down simply: it means payment. Jesus was the perfect sacrifice whose blood completely covered our debts.
Jesus is a gift for the whole world
-
-
-
- John explicitly notes that Jesus is the propitiation “not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.” (1 John 2:2) Pastor Kevin directly confronts the cultural misconception that Christianity belongs to any single group or nation.
- Jesus did not die for a select club; He died to pay for the sins of every single human being.
