We all love new. New seasons, new starts, new chances. Pastor Kevin Long takes us to one of the biggest “reset” moments in Scripture, Genesis chapters 6–9 with Noah and the flood. As the world spiraled into corruption and violence, God judged sin, but also provided a way of rescue. Noah’s story shows what new beginnings really look like: God’s grace that gives favor, faith that responds with obedience, and God’s mercy that opens the door to begin again.
Noah Found Favor
The world was filled with wickedness, but Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. (Genesis 6:8)
Noah was righteous, Blameless in his generation, and a man who walked with God (Genesis 6:9)
However, Noah was still a man and was not sinless
When judgment came, nobody could buy their way out. Favor with God is what mattered.
Noah was Obedient
After favor came instruction. God told Noah to build the ark, store provisions, and prepare for what nobody else believed was coming.
Noah spent decades building, preaching, and warning, yet saw no converts. Still, Scripture says, “Noah did all that God commanded him.” (Genesis 7:16)
Noah Began Anew
After the flood, God opened the door and called Noah into a brand new life.
Noah’s first action after stepping onto dry ground was worship. He built an altar and thanked God. (Genesis 8:20)
God made a covenant and gave a sign: the rainbow, a reminder that He would never again destroy the earth with a flood. (Genesis 9:12-17)
Just like the ark was God’s provided way of rescue, Jesus is God’s provided way of salvation. A true new beginning starts when we repent, believe, and follow Christ.
